Corporate Director will leave Islington as part of cost-saving measures

An internal restructure at Islington Council has been announced as the council continues to cope with government cuts.

The authority has succeeded in closing a £100m funding gap through a combination of savings of over £80m and income generation, but anticipates further significant cuts in the years ahead, subject to government funding plans.

Islington's Chief Executive, Lesley Seary, said: "Our focus must always be on providing services to those who need our help the most.

"In order to achieve the level of savings we face, we must ensure we are as lean as an organisation as we can be, and that means continually looking at ways to reduce our costs.

"One way of further driving down our costs is to streamline our directorates from five to four. It has been agreed that the post of Corporate Director of Resources will be deleted with effect from March 2013 when Louise Round will leave the council.

"I would like to thank Louise for her service to Islington for over 11 years. Louise has done a brilliant job with great energy and commitment."

A formal consultation with staff is expected to begin in November.

Louise Round joined Islington Council from LB Hammersmith and Fulham in 2001 as Director of Law and Public Services.
