Green Grants: Vote for Islington's Freightliners Farm

Freightliners Farm is a fantastic place to visit if you want some fresh air and a break from city life locally. Tucked away between bustling Holloway Road and Caledonian Road, the small farm with its pigs, sheep, rabbits and other animals is much loved by children and adults alike, and it's seeking a grant to fund various projects - especially an important wildlife project involving one of the world's most important species: bees.

Freightliners Farm in Paradise Park, N7, is looking for help with its Buzz Club project
The 'Freightliners Buzz Club' will provide weekly out-of-school-hours sessions for children and young people including learning about bees, their behaviour and their crucial role in the ecosystem. It will also encourage them to discover the benefits of locally-sourced food, giving them the chance to produce and sell their own.
The project, which draws on the farm's many years of bee-keeping experience, will establish a practical young bee keepers and honey bee appreciation club at the farm. It is thought that it will bring in up to 30,000 additional visitors to the farm each year; valuable extra business for the farm, which relies to a certain extend on volunteers.
But the project is going to need funding to get off the ground, and this is where local people with an interest come in. Freightliners is currently up against three other environmental project seeking assistance from the Green Insurance Company's Green Grants, and we think Islington People should get behind it. IF you'd like to vote, you can do so by going here and dropping an email to the GIC.
Good luck to everyone at Freightliners, and we hope to pay another visit to the farm soon!
