On Easter Saturday, (St George’s Day) 23rd April, several Highbury Barn traders, in association with the Islington Chamber of Commerce, are joining forces to create a fun, family gathering for Islington residents. The event will be held in the Highbury Barn square between 11am and 1pm, where families will gather and children will be encouraged to participate in an Easter egg hunt. Other activities will include face painting, egg painting and the egg & spoon race. Competition prizes, donated by Highbury Barn’s traders, will be awarded for the Best Easter Bonnet, (entries to be made beforehand) Best Egg Decoration, Best Easter Colouring & the overall winner of the Egg & Spoon race. Entries will be judged by local celebrity Joe Swash, and representatives of the Highbury Community Association & Highbury Barn Traders Association.
Isobel Cripps, a representative of the Highbury Barn Pub, says “Easter’s a very meaningful time for many people and we want to do something that emphasises the importance of community spirit and brings families together. It’s intended to be a bit of light hearted fun for the children, whilst remembering the meaning of Easter through the symbolic tradition of egg painting. We’ll have the Bar-B-Q going and there’ll be subsidised prices on all the children’s food, thanks to our local supplier and fellow Highbury Barn trader, butcher Chris Godfrey. So, Mums and Dads can relax, enjoy a drink and a bite to eat, while the kids have lots of fun painting and hunting eggs!”
Families can also expect to enjoy lots of free samples, tasty giveaways and special offers from La Fromagerie, Mrs Lovell’s Greengrocers, To Be Established Gift shop, The Pharmacy and many more.
