Are you open to discussing taking on a person with learning difficulties in post or work experience placement?

As part of the Chamber's active role with The Fairness Commission we are keen to engage with our members and local business owners who are open to challenging difficult perceptions regarding disabilities and unemployment.

"Work is positive for health, for income, for social status and for relationships with other people. Unfortunately, for many people with learning disabilities, finding work is very difficult. However, there are many reasons why employing someone with a learning disability can benefit your workplace – the gains can be financial, improve morale, promote team building, re-evaluation of work tasks and effectiveness, and being viewed positively as an employer/business that recognises and values diversity in its workforce.

We would very much like the opportunity to show you why it is worthwhile to open up work opportunities to local residents who have a learning disability, and to discuss the support that could be available to help you, the employer, develop a more inclusive workplace.

Already people with learning disabilities work in a range of sectors, including gardening, administration, arts, reception, maintenance, and catering. Can your business offer an opportunity to a worker with learning disabilities? If you'd like to have a short exploratory discussion then we'd be happy to come and meet you."
