Many of us have fond memories of books we read as children. Learning to read is not only a pleasurable experience but an important life skill that, if mastered at a young age, can help children in many aspects of their lives.

CBeebies presenter Katy Ashworth will help Peabody launch its first Literacy Project to encourage children to read, and inspire parents to help their children with literacy skills. Katy will be performing a short play, "The Magic of Music" and interactive workshop for families at the event which will take place at the Hugh Cubitt Centre on 15th October 2012 from 4-5pm.

The project aims to encourage Literacy Awareness through one-to-one support from volunteers for families who have children between 2-5 years old. Each family will have a dedicated Literacy Champion for a weekly session for up to five weeks (at no cost).

If you're a parent looking for fun ways to encourage your children to enjoy learning through reading, music and arts & crafts, or a volunteer who'd like to offer your skills as a Literacy Champion, then come along to hear more.
