Musical comedian Helen Arney

used to live in Stoke Newington. But she had to move (to Islington, rumour has it!) and this song explains a bit about what eventually drove her from N16. The song, which Helen plays on her ukelele, is

really quite inspired has an accompanying video here,

The hilarious song tells the tale in Helen's own words of what it was

like for a single girl living in Stoke Newington, but to be honest, replace the number 73 bus with the number 43 and it could be about Islington, with its high

proportion of 'tofu reading, guardian-eating' yoga mums and young

professionals. In fact, the song is bound to ring true for most North Londoners in parts!

Helen will be taking her ukelele along with this songs and many

other witty, poignant and catchy songs up to Edinburgh later this month,

so do be sure to catch her show if you're heading up there. The show takes a wry look at modern love, or in Helen's own words 'if Juliet were alive today, would she still choose secret trysts and double suicide over a fixed-rate mortgage and awkard Christmas dinners with Romeo's parents?' This, and other important questions will be answerd in depth on her trusty 'uke'.

Check out Helen Arney's Songs for Modern Living for ticket info and dates.

Gotta love those Stokey types. I'm well amused at how many of them want to get 'back to nature' with their backyard chickens, but then cry about it when foxes invariably invade! You wouldn't get any of that nonsense in Islington, now, would you...
