Tis the season to be tipsy...where are the best places to party in Islington?
Public humiliation (or 'singing' as it's known in this case) is supposed to be a great way to encourage team bonding, which makes karaoke a particularly good choice for Christmas parties. Lucky Voice has rooms to accommodate up to 15 people, and serves seasonal cocktails to add to the festive vibe. More on Christmas party booking here.
Speakeasy and late-night cocktail bar Ladybird is an ideal venue for parties, with a 150 person capacity, two floors and an enthusiastic team of mixologists and DJs on hand to ensure your party goes with a bang. Situated right in the middle of Upper Street, it's within staggering distance of several buses and Angel Tube, so your team should all get home easily and safely after hours!
If you're after a slighly more sedate evening (but one with plentry of great wine, beer and food involved), the Angelic will provide all you need in the gorgeous surroundings of their ornate bar on Liverpool Road. The staff are generally very relaxed about party bookings, and you can pick whichever are you wish, availability permitting.
Round Midnight Jazz & Blues Bar
It's nice to do a little more than just getting utterly sloshed with your contemporaries at Christmas, so for those looking for a bit of entertainment beyond the drinks, Round Midnight is a good bet. The great thing about this bar is that when you hire it, you're not just hiring an empty space: they'll tailor the entertainment to your needs, too.
Another great cocktail venue that's pulling out all the stops for Christmas, Anam is a little bit off the beaten Upper Street track in Chapel Market. Split into two main areas with huge and comfy sofas, Anam will cater for 15-120 guests, making it a good choice for smaller or larger groups looking to well and truly put the "spirit" into Christmas.
Yup, it's another bar in N1 specialising in cocktails, but at this time of year in particular, a rum toddy or two is always a popular bat. Wax Jambu is one of Upper Street's smaller bars, so unless you have a tiny team, you'll need to book now to avoid disappointment. This is an intimate and friendly bar with heaps of atmosphere, and great live music.
If you're looking for a wide selection of food, drinks, plenty of space and a central location, the Grand Union bar & grill on Upper Street is a good all-rounder. With a mouth-watering range of Christmas platters and several graded deals, it's great for those on a budget.
If you want to show your team how impressively green and ethical your credentials are, nothing could say it in a more painless way than a trip to the Duke of Cambrige on St. Peter's Street off Essex Road. The progressive pub doesn't take bookings in the bar, but you can book the restaurant for a sit-down meal, allowing you and your team to enjoy the delicious ethically-sourced organic cuisine on offer.
Traditional pub and dining house The Barnsbury is always a safe bet for group visits, and the helpful staff are great at catering for those looking for a pint of something tasty and a good bite to eat. With their great range of real ales and new Christmas menu, you're guaranteed to leave full of Christmas cheer!
A really unusual pub in a great location on the Grand Union Canal, Narrowboat is a fun place to take guests at any time of year. They'll be putting on a good show this Christmas, with two Christmas dinner menus to choose from (which you can view here) and still a few places left to book...
