Know any great green businesses in Islington?

Islington was recently named as London's greenest borough, and part of that success can be attributed to the many eco-conscious local businesses that have made caring for the environment a kay part of their strategy.

Now, Islington Council is looking to reward those businesses in its third annual Giant Green Business Awards, and you can nominate any local organisation that you think is doing a great job for the planet.

Going green has to be on the agenda for any business at present, but for some, the challenges aren't just a tiresome problem to be overcome: they are opportunities to find new ways of doing things, leading to some really clever and innovative solutions.

Judges will be looking to recognise green innovation in seven categories, wich include sustainable food and eating, green building, sustainable transport and energy and C02 reduction. The winner will be announced at a ceremony at Kings Place in November.

I can think of a few examples of good, environmentally sustainable business practices in Islington - from bars using repurposed and 'found' furniture to great effect, to take-away shops using local suppliers and setting up cycle delivery schemes.
