No-nonsense, friendly local

The crowd here are absolutely lovely, and the staff - including resident dog Rolo (the sexy beast on the new sign) - are friendly and good at what they do. It's a big space with plenty of seating and an outdoor area for smoking. It's refreshingly down-to-earth for a pub on a main road in Angel; there are no cocktails with umbrellas and fashionistas propping up the bar with top-knots and daddy's credit card: just no nonsense, well kept beers and a good range of spirits, wines and soft drinks. They don't do food but you're allowed to bring in your own from one of the many neighbouring places. Ooh, and I nearly forgot the theatre upstairs. There's a theatre upstairs. It's small and well run. I've only seen one thing here personally, but I really enjoyed it, and everyone I know who's been has loved the performances so I guess they must be of a high standard generally. One we should try and hold on to in N1.
