Excellent Place

The Barnsbury is one on the best places to drink in Islington. Friendly atmosphere and staff are very helpful. If bored by conversation, they do have a selection of games to play (jenga etc) to pass the time. It's quite close the Arsenal, which makes this a great place to drink before match games, if one wants to avoid the hustle and bustle of a pub closer to the Emirates.

the best

What the owner has done with this pub is just fantastic. They have done a great refurb on the place, have my favourite beer on tap (Cruzcampo), and have awesome staff that invite you into this place like its your home. Ive heard the coffee is supposed to be the best in the area and won an award too, so i guess its not just a pub after all! Brilliant!

New management doing a cracking job the Barnsbury

The Barnsbury is now in its first few weeks under new management and initial impressions are very good indeed. The refurbishment has left the place looking clean and inviting, and the landlord tells me they've spent at least as much on the cellar too which would account for the very high quality of the bitters on tap. It's mostly a pub but there's half a dozen tables in a dining area too and the menu is along pleasingly straightforward lines where you glance at the first option, think "I could happily eat that" and then realise the same about everything listed and pick something at random. Last night I picked at random a steak tartare which was very good indeed. It's obvious that a lot of care and thought has gone into the whole operation, from the beers to the menu to the wine list to the coffee, and I'm sure I'll be back.

Relaxed pub with great beer & wine selection

Whether you want a fantastic coffee (extremely yummy espresso!!) or some seriously tasty beer this place is great. A quick 5 - 10 minute walk away from Upper Street''s bars to a traditional pub that''s under new ownership. They were serving Konig for only £2.50 a pint at the weekend, a refreshing change from the high prices you normally find in Islington. The beer is well kept, extensive fridges full of world beers and although I didn''t eat in here the menu looks great and people seemed to be relishing their meals whilst I was there. There is an eclectic range of music played but not loud so chatting is still easy. I spied Jenga and a few other board games sitting on a shelf - perfect for Sundays with a bottle of wine. The next outing will have to be Sunday lunch based I think, and taking advantage of the beer garden whilst there is still sunshine this year!

Fantastic Pub

Went after work one evening. Walm welcome. Excellent food. Friendly atmosphere. Cocky and all his staff were very attentive. Definitely will be visiting again.
