I guess I've had better experiences of The Castle than the last reviewer, thankfully! Nothing wake-like in my encounters, but I did almost always go on a Friday evening so it was always rammed. My office used to bundle in and fight for a table each week and even though we tried various other places in the area, we always migrated back here in the end. They have a good range of beers as well as other drinks and the staff I dealt with were nice and capable despite it being busy. The roof terrace is lovely and gives you a real sense of being slightly out of the hussle which is nice after hours in the office. The toilets were always clean and nice and the clientelle seems cool most of the time.

I've tried the Castle on two separate occasions now and both times have left disappointed and remarkably light of wallet. I do try to give each place a second shot, but they didn't impress either time and now I am giving up. It's a shame, because the Castle does have a number of things going for it. The roof terrace, for example. The split level arrangement with two accessible bars. The rooftop barbecue on the best days in the summer. The faults don't make up for the good bits though - the staff are variously rude or inept or both, one or other of the bars has usually run out of something, the atmosphere is akin to that of a wake. It's difficult to pinpoint quite what's wrong with the Castle, but perhaps it is just the combination of things that make up to very little.
