What is it? The statue above Blacks, Islington

We're focusing on shops this month, and taking a closer look at the premises themselves has thrown up some interesting architectural gems that we normally just miss. Does anyone know why Blacks on Upper Street has this oddly ornate roof, for example?

Reportit used to be Dome Antiques in the 80's. Ther was an article in the Islington Gazette then about the man repainting the statue getting cheered by passers by as he decrated her breasts.
